Dr Michael Simpson has worked with plants for thirty years and provides a consultancy service to companies growing new crops or developing new food products, nutritional supplements and household goods.
Qualifications and Experience
- BSc Honours in Botany from Edinburgh University
- MSc in the Conservation and Utilisation of Plant Genetic Resources from Birmingham University
- PhD in Agricultural Botany from Reading University
- Post-doctoral research at Sutton Bonington, Nottingham University
- Lecturer and adviser at the Scottish Agricultural College, Aberdeen
- Seven years developing methods for growing new pharmaceutical crops such as evening primrose and borage
- Nine years developing and marketing new nutritional products based on plants and nutritional oils.
- Manager of projects aimed at developing new uses for plants growing in the Scottish Highlands
- Practising Medical Herbalist and Member of the National Institute of Medical Herbalists
